Jim Moore, who among many other things writes the I Love Inventors
blog, has written a thoughtful, provocative post in response to a recent New York Times article on patent reform. From his post:
A few large companies, rampant infringers, are getting their due and they are upset about it. They are blaming the patent system, and have lobbied the Bush administration for relief. Unfortunately the administration seems willing to throw out a hundred years of settled law in order to help these large donors. A few senators appear to be willing to go along.
I believe this is a very important conversation. If you agree, please Digg it!
Some of Jim's other posts on the topic of patent reform include:
- True story: How IBM rigged "patent reform" for its own gain
- Patents are key to young people, and young companies
By way of disclosure, I'm the "young entrepreneur" mentioned in the latter post. The story he relates in that post helped galvanize my views on intellectual property protection and eventually led me to join Jim's company, NMG Technology, which has filed several patent applications with my name on them.
As a postscript, the startup CEO described in Jim's story has since been fired by his own board. Even if the patent system breaks down, it appears the karma system still works pretty well.
